Community Matters has acted as a Constituent Group and has sponsored refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and The Democratic Republic of The Congo for over 15 years. Through our present services we partner with volunteer groups, throughout the GTA. The volunteer od Constituent Groups provide financial and settlement support for refugees and their families during their first year in Canada.

Constituent groups can be formed through community and social groups, or families.  We work closely with these groups to ensure that refugees receive a smooth welcome and are  connected with proper resources to support their settlement process here in Canada. For more information about sponsoring a refugee or forming a Constituent Group, please contact us here.

Support for refugees

Canada’s private sponsorship of refugees is one means by which we express our humanitarian traditions with respect to displaced and persecuted persons. It provides an opportunity for the voluntary sector to extend Canada’s capacity to resettle Convention Refugees and Humanitarian-Protected Persons Abroad through supporting government resettlement initiatives and through directly supporting the resettlement of refugees.

As Canadians we are encouraged to become involved in the resettlement of refugees whose admission to Canada depends upon the support of a sponsor.

As a Sponsorship Agreement Holder, we are continuing a tradition of dedication by the voluntary sector to resettle and integrate refugees into Canadian society. Through their offers of financial, human resources and moral support, Canadians provide refugees with a foundation on which to build their new lives in Canada.

Our involvement demonstrates a commitment to continuing Canada’s humanitarian traditions.
